Hello, my name is Cheryl Marie Thomas. This is my fifth year as the principal at Hyatt Elementary. I have enjoyed my first six years as an elementary principal for Y5/K-5th grade students. This is my fifteenth year in the Linden Community School District.
I earned my Bachelor of Science in Education at Eastern Michigan University in 1992. After obtaining a teaching position with Flint Community Schools, I attended Oakland University in 1997 where I received my Masters of Early Childhood Education. I continued my graduate level course work at Oakland and earned credits in a reading program. In 2005, I completed the Administrative Leadership Academy with the Genesee Intermediate School District. Most recently , I earned my Education Specialist from Oakland University.
My classroom experience provided me with many opportunities to teach students and grow in my understanding of teaching and learning. I taught in a first grade self contained classroom, and a 1st/2nd grade multi-age classroom. I transitioned to a position as a reading specialist and implemented Kindergarten through fifth grade intervention programs. In addition to my teaching responsibilities, I coordinated the summer literacy programs and provided staff development in the area of literacy.
During the years 2000-2006 I worked as a literacy coordinator supporting county schools in the area of literacy and assessment.
In 2006, I was hired for the position of Director of Curriculum & Instructional Services for Linden Community Schools. This position allowed me to implement research based curriculum initiatives to support Linden’s staff and students.
As a resident in the Linden community, I respect the dedication that Linden Community Schools has to its community and also to my my own children. I have two sons attending Linden High School and am a true Linden Eagles fan!
